There is one veterinary clinic you can always come to no matter what ailment your pet has. At Berlin Township Animal Clinic in West Berlin, New Jersey, we offer veterinary treatments for dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits, small mammals, reptiles, birds, and any unusual pets.

Symptoms of Heart Disease

Heart disease is common in both dogs and cats. Unfortunately, in cats the disease may be completely silent until an emergency develops. Heart disease in dogs usually has early symptoms. These symptoms include slight coughs (particularly at night), fatigue, loss of appetite, trouble sleeping, and an increase in respiratory rate.

Kidney and Urinary Infections

Kidney and lower urinary tract infections may go undetected until significant damage has occurred. Urinary tract disorders are common in both dogs and cats. Often owners are unaware until the pet urinates in too many inappropriate places, and then the owners finally seek assistance.

The progression of kidney disease can be slowed with proper care. Many lower urinary problems are completely correctable, or in the case of incontinence, controllable with medication. Kidney and lower urinary tract disease are detected with an exam, blood work, and a urinalysis. X-rays can also used to detect stones.

Endocrine Diseases

Endocrine diseases are common in both cats and dogs, and they involve glands that produce hormones. These are typically very slow starting diseases, but many times are not easily detectable during a physical exam until the disease is overt and significantly progressed. These diseases are typically treatable.

The earlier endocrine diseases are detected, the better we can prevent damage to the body. These diseases are detected with physical examinations, blood and urine analysis, and information the owner provides. Common endocrine diseases include hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus, and hyperadrenocorticism.

Cancer Treatment

Cancers are common in geriatric pets. Some cancers we can surgically remove or treat if discovered early enough. In other cases we can provide supportive care for the pet (and you) until humane euthanasia is the best option. We also work closely with area specialists to provide best available care for your pet's particular condition.

Allergies

Dogs and cats can develop allergies to protein in their diet or environmental allergens. These symptoms present as "a sensitive stomach, itchy skin, sneezing, runny eyes, and ear infections". We have many new treatment options available to help manage your pet's symptoms.
